A custom mouthguard is specifically made to fit the unique contours of your mouth, offering superior comfort and protection. Unlike off-the-shelf options, a custom-fit guard stays in place better, can be easier to breathe and speak with, and provides optimal defense against impacts to the face.
The lifespan of a custom mouthguard depends on several factors, including the material used, the wearer’s age, and the level of use. For children and teens, mouthguards may need to be replaced more often due to growth and changes in the mouth structure. On average, a well-maintained mouthguard can last for several seasons of play.
Absolutely! In fact, it’s especially important for individuals with braces to protect their orthodontic appliances and avoid injury to the inside of their mouth. Our custom mouthguards are designed to fit comfortably over braces and will adjust to changes as your teeth move.
Caring for your custom mouthguard is easy! Rinse it with water or mouthwash after each use, and clean it with a toothbrush and toothpaste regularly. When it’s not in use, store your mouthguard in a ventilated container to dry out, and avoid leaving it in hot environments to maintain its shape.
A well-fitting mouthguard should be comfortable and stay in place without needing to clench your teeth. It shouldn’t cause gagging or impede your breathing or speech. During your consultation, we will ensure a perfect fit that meets these criteria.
After your initial consultation and dental scan, it typically takes about two weeks to craft your custom mouthguard. We will schedule a follow-up appointment for you to try it on and make any necessary adjustments on the spot.
The Canadian Association of Orthodontists recommends that children have their first visit with an Orthodontic Specialist by the age of 7. This early evaluation allows the specialist to identify any orthodontic issues that may be easier to correct if caught early on and ensures the best possible development for your child's smile.
